Professor Cody Thorne pulled his canary cloak tighter around his body, as the night air chilled his bones. His wand was hidden in the front pocket of his robes, with the only use to start a fire. He had never remembered September to be so cold, in all his years of teaching. He held a heavy, black lantern inbetween his thin, knobby fingers, and looked out onto the road coming from Hogsmeade.
The time seemed to pass slowly, Cody not taking any feeling to the world, until he heard the faint sound of hoove-beats against cobblestone. He shook his head and smiled when he saw dozens of 'horse-less' carriages coming towards Hogwarts, and turned his attention to the lake, where dozens of boats were making the trek across the body.
With a nod, and a flick of his hands the enormus, heavy oak doors of the castle opened, letting a gust of warm air out onto the cold old man. He smiled and turned around, walking into the castle, and waiting for the students.
[[Alright. All students will come here, before the feast. This thread will be open for a few days after the feast is started to complete any minglings and whatnots that happen here. Please, this is before sorting, so first years you are not sorted. Other, mingle, please.]]

Amelia, having been jostled around a fair amount in a carriage by herself stepped carefully from her raised carriage compartment onto the shadowed ground just outside the castle doors. She was robed in typical school fashion, worn above a pleated grey wool skirt and a knit green jumper. Shaking out her curly hair in all directions as she began to walk toward the castle, she looked up at Hogwarts, thrilled already to be back among those like her.
The heavy oak doors were propped open in preparation for the flood of students who were to arrive soon, so crossing into the threshold Amelia looked around with honey-coloured eyes dancing with light, spotting the only soul who seemed to be the entire welcoming committee. Taking several strides over to him, Amelia extended her hand in greeting.
"Good evening Professor Thorne," Amelia said with practiced etiquitte, "It's a pleasure to see you again. Another year about to begin it seems."

The old man stood square in the middle of the Entrance Hall. He could hear the carriages opening and the faint sound of shoes clicking the cobblestones. As the students started to file into the Entrance Hall and seperate into their own little cliques, Cody nodded. It happened every year. Even with in his own little house, there was so much segregation.
When Amelia approached him, and thrust her hand out, he smiled and shook it.
"Good evening, Miss Kons." He said smiling, his eyes dancing wildly in the torch-lit hall. "Likewise, mademoiselle. I trust your holiday went well?"

"Oh immensely," Amelia said smiling as she returned the handshake firmly but ladylike simultaneously, "I holidayed in France and it was simply wonderful. Even the best of things must come to an end, though, if better things are to come. And so here I am again."
Amelia, while she kept her attention on the professor, could sense the bustling of fellow students around her and she knew that she too must soon join the flow of them back to their separate dormitories. She, though looking forward to it, also thought highly of keeping her relations with the staff amiable and therefore continued to smile at Professor Thorne as they conversed.
"Am I to assume your holiday was enjoyable as well?" She asked politely, making conversation as was typical in a teacher/student relationship.

Sean and a few of his freinds he seemed to always be with were sitting on the carriage. his robes allready on as he got them on in the train. He was laughin and talking as casual as ever as the door opend for them to get out. One of his friends pushed him out as he was stepping and he slipped into some mud. The cool air allready swarming his body.
He got up and pushed back with his muddy hands but a friendly push as they all kept laughing. They were slightly scrambling to get ahead of the students as they began to get swarmed. As Sean looked up he saw Professor Thorne and he stopped and walked nicley like the others.
"Good day professor!" he said with a grin and as politley as he could as his friends behind him held in a laugh just waiting to burst. One faked a cough to let out some of the laugh.
Im not a prefect until tomorrow... He thought in his mind.

Cody smiled as Amelia informed him that her holiday went well. He was glad to hear that his students equally enjoyed their times away from Hogwarts, as they did while in the school.
"That's lovely to hear, Miss Kons. Yes, thankyou, I was proud to attend the Quidditch World Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands. As you said, even the best of things must end." He nodded and smiled when Sean approached. "Good day, Mr.Falton. I trust you and Miss Kons have been aquainted."
The old man smiled mysteriously, his eyes seemed to be dancing more brilliant than before, as he looked at the two. He had been some what of a MatchMaker during his days at Hogwarts and had no intention to give it up.

Sean simply stopped and looked over at Amelia. "Yea, We have met a few times..." He said. "Hey" He said again looking at Amelia with a smile. He has seen her around and thought she was pretty but he never really had time to stop and talk. But he almost wish he did.
"Well see you around Thorne... I mean Professor Thorne." With that his friends burst out laughing as they scurried down the hall to hang out in a corner. He was practically bieng pushed by one of them and he gave a small wink to Amelia without thinking...
I really have to think before I do things... But o well that will probolly turn out good for me anyways. he thought as he got pushed away. He may come back and talk more later since they would have to be here a while with the first years coming.

"Only in passing," Amelia said politely as she aknowledged Sean with a cordial nod and a smile. She had seen him, as she said, in the hallways and in class on various occasions but the record of their meetings were few and far between. Perhaps she might like to get to know him better, which she was just thinking about.....
...when he winked at her. It was completely unexpected and she had no time to think about it much less act upon it. Before she could process his action he was already half way across the hall and surrounded by several of his friends.
Why did he.....? Amelia found colour rising to her cheeks she couldn't explain and her honey coloured eyes drifted across the room to where he stood before she could stop herself. Remembering whose presence she stood in she reverted her attention back to the Professor to close their conversation as conventionally as possible and save any dignity that might remain despite her flaming cheeks.
"Well, though it's been a pleasure speaking with you again, I really must be joining my fellow classmates. Truly, a pleasure, and thank you Professor Thorne. Perhaps we shall see each other again soon."
Nodding in finality, Amelia turned and - so help her - subconciously glanced to where Sean stood before finding her way through the various groups of students and leaning against the far wall. She hadn't spotted anyone yet she was too familiar with and was, for now, perfectly content to watch the others.

"Looking for someone?" asked Alexia ruefully, standing behind Amelia with a slight smirk.
"Or should I say, at someone?"
She knew the Ravenclaw by name and reputation only, having been in various classes and gatherings as Amelia.

Cody smiled as Sean left, "On the flipside, Sean-dogg." The old man said grinning as he and the rag-tag group of Hufflepuffs walked away. He, too, noticed Sean's wink and Amelia's blushing. Of course, Cody's mind was already racing at how to arrange the two together. But when Amelia said her tidings, he nodded and smiled. "Indeed. I hope our paths cross again, Miss Kons. Enjoy your term."

"Hm?" Amelia said, snapping back to reality with a fortifying jerk from a girl now standing beside her with a self-satisfied smirk. Amelia coudln't for the life of her think what might have put it there.
Hold on....what did she just say.......
"I don't have any idea what you're talking about," she said defiantly, racking her brain for the girl's name as she spoke. She had heard it once when a teacher took role in class, but she couldn't for the life of her remember what it was. She was never very good with names.
Amanda....Alicia.....no, that wasn't it...something with an 'A'.....

"Oh?" said Alexia.
"It wouldn't have anything to do with a certain Hufflepuff over there would it?" she said with feigned innocence.
"Because that's quite sweet if it was."

Ariel wandered into the room, looking for someone to talk to. Then she noticed two girls talking a little ways across the corridor. She wandered over there, bowing to Professor Thorne as she passed.
"Good day Professor Thorne." She hurried on by. Finally she approached the two girls. One was a Slytherin, fifthe year by the looks, and the other was Ravenclaw, also fifth year. She decided to say hi. By the looks of it the Slytherin seemed to almost be taunting the Ravenclaw.
"Err Hi I'm Ariel. How's it going?"

Josh noticed one of his own students, who was also a prefect, was standing there. So he walked over to Ariel and said, "Hello, how was your summer?"

When Alexia spoke Amelia had her arms crossed over her chest with determination not to say anything. There was no way she was going to indulge in who she fancied - No! - who she just happened to be looking at, with a girl whose name she couldn't remember. When she mentioned Sean again, though, Amelia's eyes flickered up to him to see him laughing along with his group.
This is bad... Amelia knew that feeling in the pit of her stomach, the one she was having now, and there was no possible way it was a good sign. She'd barely even spoken to the boy!
A Slytherin who thinks something is sweet....that's new....
"I think you better get your eyes checked because I was only examining the tapestry further off," Amelia said with dignity, pleased with herself for having though of something so quickly.
That being said, she now turned to the new arrival and, after looking at her for a moment, extended her hand.
"Amelia, pleased to meet you," she said kindly, watching the Slytherin with the 'A' name beside her out of the corner of her eye as she did so, "Have a good summer?"
