Amelia took the quill from Elias with a muttering of thanks just as the professor began to conduct the lesson, soon informing her that she wouldn't have needed the quill in any event. She laid it next to her bag, though, just in case she would need to make a note later as she picked up her thin willow wand from her desk, giving it a quick flick.
Alexiel's less than prompt arrival didn't suprise her much and Amelia smiled and rolled her eyes jokingly as her Slytherin friend fell into the seat beside her. Alexiel and Amelia had almost nothing in common, but they always ended up having the best of times.
"Hey," Amelia said, watching as Alexiel made up for her lateness by preparing quickly, "You know better than that. I'm never tired. Work all day, party all night, right?" She added with a wink to her fellow prefect.

Knelb gave a small chuckle at Sean's comment as he continued to pass them out. As he finished passing around the potatoes he returned the sack to the side of his desk and grabbed one for himself before walking out into the middle of the two rows. He took out his wand and held it firmly in his hand with the potatoe in the other.
"Now that we have our item. We can begin!" he said placing the potatoe on a un-used desk.
"The incanation for this spell is Engorgio. be sure to say all of your spells clearly to perform best." He said as he raised his wand and pointed it at his potatoe.
"Engorgio." He said calmly as he flicked his wand with a quick sharpness. The potatoe instantly began to enlarge until it was about the size of a large watermelon. The desk below it creaked with pressure.
"Now there is eneough for everyone with a single potatoe!" he said with a laugh as he turned around to face the rest of the class.
"Just remember to enunciate clearly and to flick your wrist quickly but not too quick that you lose your flow. It just has to be a sharp little flick right at the potatoe and it should work nicley. Any questions? If not then lets have all of you try that now." he said as he walked slowly down the aisle.

Amelia watched with mild interest as the professor demonstrated the charm they were to use today, her eyes widening as the potato grew to quite a large size, glancing down to her own normal-sized potato still sitting on her desk and then back to his.
That would have solved the Irish famine problems... Amelia thought with a smile, recalling a bit of muggle history.
"Well," she said as the professor finished, turning to Alexiel and grasping her wand in her right hand, "Let's try this, shall we?"
Scooping up her potato, she placed it in the center of her desk and concentrated on what Professor Berton had said. It didn't sound particularily difficult, just a flick an good enunciation.
Simple enough...
Preparing herself, she raised her wand a performed the flicking motion, stopping just before she reached the starchy substance on her desk. She watched, with little or no result. She thought she had seen some growth, but that might have been just wishful thinking.
Come on now...

Ariel raised her wand. She thought about trying the incation in her head, as she had seen a sixth year do, but she hadn't done the spell before so she thought she might try it out loud first. The spell wasn't difficult to say or remember, considering she said it out loud a few times. Also all it took was a nice flick. Simple enough.
"Engorgio!" She flicked her wand, a little to sharply. The potatoe started to grow, then shrunk back to normal size. Well at least I got something

Sean laughed when the potatoe grew to 3 times its regular size. He pulled his wand out and set the potatoe upright in the middle.
This looks too easy. he thought as he poitned his wand.
"Engrogio." he said and it was not as clear as it could have been. He also flicked his wrist with a bit too much as it hit the quill on the top of his desk.
The quill began to grow fast untill it popped and little featehrs floated all down around Sean.
"Whoa! That was pretty cool." He said as he had pushed himself away from the desk as his quill exploded.

The rest of the class, from what she could see, wasn't catching quickly onto the concept either which dulled the sense of failure Amelia had felt momentarily rise in her as she had succumbed to pressure the first time. A renewed sense of pride growing in her she prepared her wand once again.
Come on potato.... she thought, mentally speaking to the inanimate object in front of her, You are going to work with me this time.....
Her mind set, she retried the spell with concentration and determination, Engorgio! she said firmly, rather louder than her classmates were saying it but it seemed to have the right effect.
The potato in front of her began to grow, slowly at first and picking up pace after a few moments. After it had reached about double it's size it simply stopped without warning, and with no control by Amelia.
It's a start... Amelia thought looking at the oversized vegetable in front of her.

Elias watched the other students try it first to just get the whole sequence of what to do down first. I hope this works... He thought tho himself seeing has he was never to perfect with spells and charms but he prepared his wand and set the potato in the center.
Engorgio, Engorgio, Engorgio!! Elias said it in his mind several times before trying it out loud. He moved his wand a bit to get the flow through his wrist, hand and arm moving. Then he tried it....
ENGROGIO! Elias said it just a little bit louder than needed and he said it WRONG. He moved his wand as he said it then awaited a result. Nothing the potato sat still. I wonder what I did wrong. He thought to himself then said the charm in his mind a few more times and thought through the process and just kept thinking of what he did wrong and not realizing he didn't say the charm clearly.

Sean watched as everyone began to work on their spell. He saw in general as most peopel where able to see a minor change even if only for a second and very few got it right.
"Remember. Speak clearly... Thats the most important." He said lookign at a few students who spoke sloppy.
"And remember to aim at the potato and nothing else." he said looking at Sean with a friendly smile. Seeing the quill desinigrate tickled his insides. He then looked over and saw Amelia perform it almost perfectly as the potato grew to only slightly smaller then his own he created earlier.
"That is good Amelia. Was that your first try? Impressive. Take three points." He said as he looked over her potato and then walking away looking at the others.
"Here is a small little bonus question everyone." He said closing his eyes for a brieg moment to think a quick one up. He then looked at the potato on the desk that was enlarged and spoke.
"Name on scenario in which this spell would be usefull... Anything at all! Us e your imagination!" He said with a large smile as he continued to pace up and down.

Sean saw the professor look at him when he said aim for the potato and he couldnt help but laugh a small "sorry." Out to him with a big grin as he looked back at his untouched potato.
Sean thought about the bonus question... He could say anything at all. This was his kind of question. He raised his hand and waited to be called on and then spoke.
"Lets say... Your trapped in a cave and a huge dragon is outside about to eat you. All you have is a left over raisen from your lunch. You cant leave the cave without getting eatin so you have to wait until peole can come for help. You cast Engorgio on the raisain and you can eat a giant raisain for about ten days!" he said with hand expressions and everything as he placed out a field infront of him and showing the dragon with one hand and the person with the other.
"That would save your life!" he said excitedly as he looked back at the professor with very anxious eyes.

At the professor's approval Amelia stopped her speculation of her enlarged vegetable, figuring if he was satisfied she ought to be as well. But she couldn't quite figure out why she had lost control.
I'll have to work on that....
When Professor Berton offered out the question Amelia's mind automatically began thinking logically, examining possible ways to use the spell practically. Before she could organize this, though, Sean spoke up in the back of the room...
And she couldn't help but grin.
A giant raisin? Where does he come up with these things?

Knelb looked at him with curious eyes as Sean explained his scenario. As he finished knelb let out a chuckle.
"Very good! You definitly used your imagination. 5 poitns to Hufflepuff!" He said with laguther as he walked back to the center of the classroom.
"Now that you have all had a chance to work with the spell, Let me give you your homework." He said as he walked over to the board and began writing on it with his wand. He also said what he wanted.
"I would like you to fill out this on a piece of parchment and hand it in at next class."
On the board was this:
Charms Homework Lesson#1
A one page essay of three different scenarios in which this spell is usefull.
"Be creative. I like to read interesting stories and how a young teenager can use their imagination. Just bring it in next class. And also for homework remember to practice the spell a bit." He said as he walked away from the board to reveal the samll bit it said. He then walked over to his desk and looked at his watch.
"Well it seems we have a bit more of time, So you can all get a start on it now if you would like." He said with a smile.
"I cant wait to read them." He said assuming everyone would hand one in.

Sean smiled as he saw his homework. He easily came up with the first story and the professor liked it so it wouldnt be to hard to make three more. He thought for a second before begining to write something down about a giant piece of bubble gum and an egg...
"This is going to be fun for him to read." He said laughing almost to himself as he started writing.

Amelia, overall pleased with the workings of today's lesson, pulled out a sheet of parchment and a well of jet-black ink. Her quill slipped easily from her desk to her hand as she began to prepare the outline for her homework.
Well if my imagination is anywhere near as good as Sean's this should be no trouble....

Although Mark had little progress with the spell in today's lesson, he still smiled at the thought of how he could use the spell and even let out a little chuckle as he wrote down the homework on a piece of parchment.
I'll still have to practice this. I haven't got the hang of it. Now how was it that the proffessor said to flick my wrist...?

As the studnets began to work on their homework, Knelb sat in his desk until it was time for them to leave. Knelb stood up.
"Well everybody, It's time to go. Remember, Hand that in next class and work on the spell. Have a good day." He said as he walked over to the door to hold it open for the rest of the students.
"Your Dismissed." He said with a smile
