Cody sat behind his large desk with a book in his hand, Lupin Demutatio. He had inherited the book from an old friend, upon the man's death, and had just now gotten around to reading it. Slowly the clock on his mantle place ticked it's way to seven o'clock, when it clanged the time out. The old man set his book down, marking the page with a laced book-mark, looking to the door, where Amelia Kons was to come through, at any moment.

...And so she would, hesitantly as one might expect of someone with so little faith in the subject her professor taught, but with her head held high. Despite the incident in the first class she had decided the confidence she carried herself with would not be hindered in his presence.
Two sharp knocks at the door announced her arrival as she awaited the priviledge to enter the office of Professor Thorne.

Right on time, two sharp knocks came from the other side of the door. Thorne smiled and waved his hand at the door, slowly opening it. His office was nothing to impressive. He had a rather large library, nothing compared to Professor Verh's, but larger than most. Alongside his library, sat an old phonograph, which was constantly producing sounds from the Big Band era.
The oldman smiled when he saw Amelia standing firm, head high, and proud. She carried herself like a Seer, and he could definatly sense something in her aura. "Come in, my girl. Have a seat." He said, standing up, beckoning the Ravenclaw to enter his humble office.

Amelia entered the office with etiquitte carefully enforced by her mother's ever present voice, even where her physical presence lacked. Stand up straight......don't slouch..... speak politely.....
"Good evening, Sir," Amelia said with due respect as she found a chair on the opposite side of Thorne's desk, comfortable enough, and admired the many items which lined his walls. It was unlike any office she had been in, and she found herself wanting to tap her toes to the music playing. Restraining herself, she looked back to the man whom she had come to see.
"You had said something about wanting to see me," she said, veering the conversation toward a business-like sense before anything else could arise.

Cody smiled at her strict, business-oriented etiquitte. She often reminded him of one of his former students, Melanie Verhs, who was now a fellow educator. He nodded, and pulled a book out from a drawer in his desk and handed it to her. Advanced Seeing was the title of the book, and was meant specifically for those realizing their gift of the Inner Eye. "Yes, I did. I think I shall be breif and to the point for tonight's lesson. I sense the gift of the Inner Eye in you. Which is nothing to be ashamed of, but should be honed and trained at a young age." He said, expecting disbelief from the girl.

At the sight of a book leaving the confines of Professor Thorne's desk Amelia hopes immediately raised. Perhaps he saw her work in class and thought she might be able to handle more. Perhaps he wanted to expand her mind with the same ferver she did......
But when the title was visible all the spark of interest Amelia had felt fell short as her eyes widened, looking up to her professor for some kind of explanation. This, of all things, was not what she had expected.
His answer, though, gave her nothing of what she had desired. She had wanted some sort of reasoning that would be logical....orderly.....everything that she was and prided herself to be. But this......this was nothing.
I cannot possibly be...... why does he think..... no, it couldn't be...
"With all due respect, sir," Amelia said, getting her thoughts out with a tone of disbelief ringing through her voice, "you must have been mistaken. I cannot possibly be a seer."

Cody noticed her brightened eyes as he handed her the book. But he also, noticed how her hopes seemed to 'drop' when she saw the title of the book. He had expected disbelief from her, and was fully prepared for it. "Those who truely possess the Inner Eye, are never wrong, my dear. No, I am quite certain on the idea of your gift." He smiled and stood up, "And that's how you should treat it, as a very very special gift, my dear.
You seem like a young lady who might know something about the Muggle World. Think of it. Moses, Daniel, Abraham, John the Apostle. Those are all MAJOR names in the Muggle World. Known by all. All of them were Seers." He said, leaving the discussion open to her comments.

Well there's a first time for everything.....
Amelia shook her head, not in disrespect but in disbelief. She could not possibly be what he assumed her to be - have what he thought she did. It simply wasn't possible. Or probable. Or fanciable in her mind.
As Professor Thorne presented his case Amelia took in the information, but debated it almost instantly. Her thoughts rattled almost from mind to mouth and she took to heed to what she might say - and whether it might bring her trouble.
"All those people had something to say!" she said rather louder than she intended, sounding almost desperate, "Something important, something worth hearing! What have I got? Nothing."

Professor Thorne listened and watched her shake her head. He had been the same way when Merrythought told him he had the gift. He was a year younger than Amelia, but was equally unwilling to participate in Merrythought's game.
With Amelia's last outburst he put a finger in the air, and looked down at the girl. "Ahh, of course you don't. That is if you refuse to accept the gift, and hone the powers, you will never get anything!" He said, fatherly. "I was a year younger than you, when Professor Merrythought told me I had the gift. I refused to believe him, for a whole year! Then, one night I went into a phase. My vision was blurry, my throat ached, and I woke up in the Hospital Wing. It was a prophecy, that had been waiting years to be let out, and finally made it's way. I would like to prevent that from happening to you, if at all possible!"

"You won't have anything to prevent," Amelia snapped out before she could allow her better judgement to stop her voice from allowing such disrespect to leave her lips. It wasn't so much the words she had said but how she had said them that made it worse.
"I......I'm..." she was trying to apologize but still filled with the impossible thought that she might have this 'gift'. Don't go there.....you don't have anything but a gift for wandwork....
"I apologize," she said quietly, bowing her head and remaining silent, her mind swimming with more thoughts than she could handle.

Cody wasn't the least bit shocked at Amelia's outburst. He had fully expected her to be doubtful of her gift. This sort of thing didn't happen very often; an old man telling you that you had some sort of 'gift', and called you one of those crazy Seers.
He was surprised that she was apologizing though. He had known Ravenclaws to be a proud sort of people, and hadn't known them to be very apologetic. "No, no, you have every right to be doubtful. But Amelia, I assure you, that this will be for the best. You are gifted, my girl! A Seer!"

Have you not heard me? Can you not understand what I've been saying, been telling you the best way I know how? This isn't possible.........it can't be....
Amelia's mind raced with thoughts of so much more she could say, ways she could debate until the very end on the point the professor seemed entirely sure of. Her outburst previously, though, kept her tongue held. She didn't want to come across poorly, even if it meant keeping her objections to herself.
"I..." she stuttered, wondering how to give herself more time, a way to get out and find something....anything.... "I'll need to think about it. All of it."

Professor Thorne smiled and looked to the clock resting upon his desk. Nearly time for my match-making skill to be tested again. Woot! The old man nodded, "I wish you would. Please read chapter one and two in that book. A short summery on how a prophecy comes about, please. Let's say, this time, next week?" He said, and rose. "I thank you for coming, but I do believe it's time for your detention, my girl."

Reading.......you can do that.......you love to do that.... Amelia thought, taking a glance at the cover of the book, emblazoned with the words that now struck her with much confusion and unprocessed thoughts. Nodding at Thorne she swallowed, trying to find her voice once more.
"Yes sir, I'll do that. Shall I follow you then?"
