Sean walked in and took a seat by one of the windows on the side. He slung his bag onto the table with a thud and staired out the window waiting ofr other people to come in. Somehow he was first again. He must be slacking in his slacking duty...

Alexiel walked in and gave the Muggle Studies professor a small bow.
"Good morning, Professor Beach," she said with a smile before taking a seat in the middle of the classroom.

Amelia strode into the classroom, humming happily to herself - remembering to keep quiet of course - as she walked to seat located near the front and off to the left. She wanted a clear view out the windows onto the beautiful day outside. If she had to miss it in class she'd at least like to see it.
Setting her bag on her desk, she pulled out parchment and a quill, absentmindedly doodling in the corner while she continued to hum. The tune was indiscernable, but she kept it going as she left her mind to drift.

Seeing it was time to begin, Professor Beach stood up and began the class, "Welcome to your first class of Muggle Studies. Over the course of this year we will discuss many aspects of muggles. Their way of life, what they depend on, their history, and much more.
Let's begin this lesson with what muggles depend on the most. Well in many muggle households, almost all of the objects in the house run on something called electricity. It is like a power source that runs things. Before we continue on, who can tell me who discovered electricity and how did this person do so?"

The beginning of the lesson brought an abrupt end to Amelia's classroom serenade as she turned her attention up to the professor, her quill in hand as he began to speak.
Muggle Studies Lesson One She wrote, heading her parchment so she could identify it easily later.
When the question was posed, Amelia's hand was the first in the air. Having attended muggle schooling for several years before receiving her Hogwarts acceptance letter she had studied this very person.
"I believe, Professor," she said, lowering her hand as she began to speak, "that it was Benjamin Franklin who first discovered electricity from a muggle standpoint. He did this by conducting a series of experiments - muggle ways of trying things out - and finally reaching one to prove his theory.
In 1750 Franklin published a proposal for an experiment to prove that lightning is electricity by flying a kite in a storm that appeared capable of becoming a lightning storm. On June 15, Franklin conducted his kite experiment, which would become famous among muggles, and also successfully extracted sparks from a cloud, proving his theory in full."

"Well done Ms. Kons I see you have much knowledge on the subject, 10 points to Ravenclaw. Now continuing on, how do muggles harness this power for use?"

Amelia smiled contentedly at the professor, both in grace and self contentedness at having proven herself so early on in class.
As the next question was posed she began to turn the rolodex of her mind searching for the section on electricity. Upon finding it, the file was rather thick and she began to formulate an answer quickly, hoping she would be able to speak up before another student.

Sean once again had no idea what was going on. Although he had a muggle parent his other parent had always taken control and done everything with magic so he didnt know much. He just sat there .
Right... Let me make a note of that... he said having no idea what they were talking about as he wrote down a few words.

"Well class, there are several ways to harness the great power of electricity. The first way ever done and still in use today is the burning of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are coal and oils. The process goes as follows:Fossil Fuels are burned in a boiler creating intense heat. At the same time water is pumped past the boiler which is hot.The water becomes steam and passes through turbines. Turbines are like big propellers. The propellers rotate at shaft connected to them, called the turbine shaft. The turbine shafts are connected to shafts on generators. The shafts on the generators rotate magnets surround by metal coils. Then electricity is produced.
Class, does anyone know other ways to produce electricity and explain the process in doing so?"

Amelia, disappointed slightly that she had not been able to answer promptly, crossed off the parts of her mental formulations that the professor had said and raised her hand again.
"Muggles also use forms of electricity power known as 'renewable sources'. They are called this because they will never run out because the things that supply them - such as sun and wind - are ever present."
Not hearing an interruption she continued on, surging ahead with an explanation.
"In the example of Solar energy, sunlight hits the dark absorber surface of a solar thermal collector, a piece of black metal made to capture the sun's rays, and the surface warms. The heat energy is carried away by a fluid circuit to be transferred into power muggles can use."

"Ms. Kons that is a great input, another renewable resource is wind power. Wind turns a "propeller", which is connected by a shaft to a generator shaft. The shaft on the generator then turns magnets which are surround by metal coils."
"Does anyone know any other methods of harnessing electricity?"

Sean stared litteraly with a open mouth. His jaw dropping low. He had aboslutley no idea what the Professor had said this whole time. Something about steam and turbines or something. He wrote down those two words. But then he listend to what Amelia had to say and he felt a sudden urge to speak.
"Technically... The sun will die out in about 8 to 9 billion years. It wont last forever." He said with a small chuckle as he hoped he had not disrupted the class. Nor did he mean to make Amelia look bad.
Way to talk out of turn... hurry... answer this question so you dont get introuble.
"Ummm... Hydro power gets used alot right? They use big water wheel things to generate power. Ive seen some before... I think." He added looking up at the professor with a hopefull expression.

"Mr. Falton please raise your hand if you are going to speak. As for the hydro-electric power plants, there are very few of them. This is because there are very few places in the world that are ideal for building hydro-electric power plants."
